The concluding phase of targets set by the Millennium Development Goals, between now and 2015, is in conjuncture with an agreement by governments meeting in Rio de Janeiro this June to look into the possibility of creating a new set of sustainable development goals. Possible “SDGs”, governments have determined, should be consistent with a post-MDG, post-2015 development agenda, and should draw on the successes and lessons of the MDGs themselves.
China holds a unique and pivotal position in the world’s development dynamics. It has raised itself to become the country with the second-largest GDP, and a trade and investment hub. It has been among the leaders in MDG successes, in areas from poverty eradication to health and education. Environmental problems have become more critical, but new solutions are being devised and put in place.
Chinese firms have been at the centre of these processes, the successes and difficulties. Global Compact Network China proposes Chinese participants of UN Global Compact contribute to assessing the possibilities for a post-2015 development agenda by filling out a questionnaire posted on Chinese website of Global Compact Network China so as to participate in shaping the future world.
